Last Years Event

The annual VW-Audi track day at Castle Combe saw a good turnout and a great day was had by the many visitors, whether they were track drivers, Show ’n’ Shiners, club members or casual spectators.

A total of over 80 drivers signed on for the fast-lap sessions, with everything from a VW up! to a VW 1.8T engined MINI, although most were typical ‘hot hatch’ models like the Mk 2 GTI and Mk 4 GTI 1.8T + R32, with Corrado VR6s as well as several Audi TTs and a couple of Mk 7 GTIs adding to the mix this year.

The Show ’n’ Shine saw over 20 top quality entries. The overall winner was Huw Landry with his black Lupo GTI, ahead of Lee Scott’s modified Mk 1 Golf GTI, while in third place was Ray Partner with his 150,000-mile Tornado red Mk 2 GTI 16V.

We also saw Bill Brockbank’s full-race SEAT Ibiza as well as Mark Smith with his VW Racing Cup Scirocco, Rob Sadler (Mk 5 GTI) and Luke Schlewitz (Mk 2 Production GTI racer), while Club GTI organised an exclusive fast-lap track session.

Milltek Sport staged a display including their fully restored Mk 1 GTI and recently acquired Mk 7 Golf GTE, and VW Cup driver Lucas Orrock gave exciting passenger rides in Milltek’s modified Golf R.

TSR Performance also put on a good show and ran their modified Mk 5 Golf and SEAT Leon on circuit throughout the day.

As well as all the high-speed circuit action, there was also a low-speed lunchtime parade lap headed by Kevin Nick’s amazing Passat V6-powered road-legal wooden shed!

Also flying the flag were VAG Owners, R32 Owners’ Club, Corrado Club GB, Altered DNA, South-West SEATs (SWS), South-West Dubbers and the local Wiltshire VW Club.

Official trackside photographer Jim Gaisford was taking photos of all the cars on the circuit, including the lunchtime parade lap. You can contact him on 01225 743 400 or e-mail:

Our next event at Castle Combe is Audi Driver International on October 15th. Although primarily an Audi event, owners of all other VW Group models are welcome to take part in the track sessions. See

We look forward to seeing you all there…
