Scirocco GT24

Volkswagen has revealed an exciting concept, the GT24, based on the new Scirocco.

Styled like the race-prepared examples which are contesting the Nürburgring 24-hour race over the bank holiday weekend, the GT 24 is powered by a race-tuned 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 300 PS at 6,500 rpm. Powering through the front wheels only, this is mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox which features uprated clutch plates along with revised gear ratios.

Much lighter than the road car, the Scirocco GT24 weighs just 1,120 kg. No performance figures are quoted but with this power to weight ratio, it will be extremely quick.

Inside are a pair of lightweight Recaro bucket seats, five-point racing harnesses and the obligatory roll cage, along with a unique steering wheel and electronic display. Simple toggle switches control the ABS settings and electrical and ventilation systems.

More details in a full feature in the July issue of Volkswagen Driver, on sale from June 18.
